What You Should Know About Home Security

Home SecurityYou never know when a burglary might occur in your home. Each year, millions of people lose their belongings and peace of mind to home invasions, when they likely could’ve been easily prevented in the first place.

Home security has gotten much more sophisticated in the past decade. Along with fire/CO detection monitors, security systems and alarms, certain security companies can also install remote surveillance. According to myalarmcenter.com,

“Remote surveillance allows you to watch your home at any hour of the day from any location. You can view the live feed from the wireless security cameras through an app on your smart phone. It can even alert you when people leave and enter your home – a great way to keep an eye on the kids whether you’re on vacation or just at work.”

Along with the peace of mind and psychological well-being getting a security system can bring, there are several other benefits to it as well.

The first is a given – it minimizes your chances of getting robbed.

“The alarm alone is enough to deter an intruder. However, once the alarm has sounded, the police are immediately notified and dispatched so your home is kept safe at all costs,” says myalarmcenter.com.

Most alarm systems also send you a notification or text to alert you when your home is broken into and a representative from the central monitoring station will call you or dispatch local law enforcement to your home.

Additionally, there are also many financial benefits to getting security system. According to excite.com,

“In 2011, victims of burglary offenses suffered an estimated loss of $4.8 billion … This means, the average dollar loss for each offense was $2,185.”

Those dollars can include anything from cash, jewelry, laptops, TVs or other electronics. However, since security systems greatly lowers your chances of being robbed, you’ll feel safe knowing that your personal belongings are secure.

Many home security systems also include home automation features.

“This system will allow you to monitor your energy usage and shut off utilities when you are no longer in the room.”

This means lower energy bills and more money saved while protecting your home.

Believe it or not, getting a home security system will also increase the value of your home and lower your homeowner insurance. According to Anica Oaks at firstteam.com,

“This is especially true if it’s a hardwired security system since it must remain in the home if you ever decide to move. Because a home security system is very appealing to potential homebuyers, it adds value to your home and increases its marketability factor.”

Even when you move out of your home, you can still benefit from home security, and the people moving into your old home will thank you too.

With all of the benefits, there shouldn’t be any excuse to not get a home security system. Most companies offer systems that are affordable, so be sure to check with a reputable company who can install a system that will best fit your needs.
