After two months of closure, Wesel Boulevard will reopen to commuters by Wednesday, according to the City of Hagerstown.

A portion of the roadway from Burhans Boulevard to the area around the Wesel Storage Center and Noland Co. has been closed to traffic since Sept. 21 to allow contractor C. William Hetzer Inc. to complete a large portion of work in that area.

The construction is part of a larger, almost $5.5 million project to reconstruct the road from Burhans Boulevard to around the 1600 block near Chick-fil-A, along with widening it to as much as six lanes to provide right- and left-turn lanes for the $139 million NorthPoint industrial park on both sides of the road.

The next phase of the project will include the removal and replacement of the existing pavement between Chick-Fil-A and Noland Co., according to a news release from the city. The work is anticipated to be completed in the spring of 2021.

At least one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained for the duration of the project.

Work will continue on the road shoulders, and the area will remain an active construction zone, which will have a speed limit of 20 miles per hour.
