Alsatia Mummer's Parade - A Great Experience

What’s a mummer? According to Dictionary.com, it’s a person who wears a mask or costume while merrymaking, especially during festive seasons. If you come out to see the Alsatia Mummer’s Parade, known as the largest night-time Halloween parade on the East Coast, on October 27, 2018, you’ll see live mummers and a whole lot more.  A Hagerstown tradition since 1925, and back for the 93rd year, this huge parade features more than 200 units and involves about 10,000 parade participants.  Colorful floats represent local clubs and organizations, middle and high school marching bandsbeat out their cadences, fire trucks blare their sirens and pretty homecoming queens wave at the crowds. Cotton candy vendors and purveyors of flashing trinkets weave their way down the sidewalks through the throng of nearly 50,000 parade attendees.  Held rain, snow or shine, the route runs along North and South Potomac Streets and the parade begins at 6 p.m.  Bring your own lawn chair, find standing room, or purchase seating through the Maryland Theatre Box Office.  Everyone loves a parade, so don’t miss this one!  You don't have to go far for a great experience!
